Abstract

Mangrove restoration represents an indispensable strategy for carbon sequestration and coastal protection. Quantifying soil organic carbon cores down to two meters across rehabilitated Rhizophora zones over a 15-year chronosequence, we demonstrate rapid sedimentary carbon accumulation rates reaching 4.8 Mg C per hectare annually.
